JOB TITLE:  

Business Development Manager Infectious Disease  

REPORTING TO:  

Chief Executive Officer

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:  

The position will be responsible for a broad range of activities to maintain the companies’ competitiveness in its Infectious Disease markets. The primary purpose of the job is to identify new products and technologies for the Infectious Disease Business Unit (IDBU), manage it’s intellectual property portfolio and identify and secure funding for R&D.

MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identification and assessment of new product and technology opportunities and business opportunities, including acquisitions, presented to the company.
  • Identification and selection of potential 3rd party OEM industrial collaborators
  • Co-ordination of Scientific Advisory Board activities in the evaluation of new product and technology opportunities
  • Market research into potential new product markets
  • Liaising with customers/end-users to identify new product opportunities
  • Preparation and negotiation of contracts
  • Management of the company's Intellectual Property portfolio
  • Monitoring of new patent applications from 3rd parties in areas of interest to the IDBU business
  • Ensuring that novel technologies, once approved by the management team, are put into an appropriate project management system
  • Working closely with fellow managers to identify new technologies and products for the company
  • Working with the R&D manager to identify new R&D granting opportunities
     

PRINCIPAL QUALIFICATION REQUIRED:

  • BSc in a biological science
  • A Business/Marketing qualification would be a distinct advantage

RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHER JOBS / DEPARTMENTS:

  • Working with the Senior Management Team in strategy formation
  • Interaction with Sales and Marketing relating to market research and assessing commercial aspects of a potential new product or technology
  • Interaction with R&D on assessing the technical aspects of potential new products and /or technologies
  • Interaction with Finance to assess the financial aspects of potential new products and technologies
  • Interaction with Manufacturing to assess the manufacturability of potential new products and /or technologies
  • Interaction with Quality relating to regulatory aspects of potential new products and technologies


WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 5 years experience in a relevant position in the healthcare/sciences industry
  • Proven track record in technology management and evaluation and an ability to formulate and negotiate contracts.
  • Some experience in management of intellectual property desired but not required.
     

KEY SKILLS:

  • Experience in the diagnostics industry and evaluation of products
  • Detailed knowledge of diagnostic science and vision on the direction of these technologies
  • Ability to negotiate contracts and licensing deals
  • Experience in the diagnostics industry and evaluation of products
